Florian

Mr. Florian

Florian was born in Montreal, Canada, not so long ago, in a land, not so far away. He was singing even before he learned how to ride a bicycle. From the time he was a child his interests centered on literature, art and history.  This contributed towards his playing folk music and the blues as he traveled from city to city like a “Bohemian-Gyspy.”

After many adventures in Old Europe with his back pack and his guitar Florian decides to settle in Paris, where he lives selling poems and short stories. He sold his works in the streets, cafes and restaurants. He shared his music wherever he could.  He can still be seen and heard singing and playing his music in the metro, or wherever he can.

In 2001 Florian was fortunate to meet Nicolas Richard a French composer/arranger, with whom he begins a collaboration in studio singing on demos for many well known artists in France, such as Florent Pany, Jane Birkin and many others. Their association led to the release of the album, “Rêve de saison,” produced by Claude Cayla, in 2003. In the summer 2004, Florian was introduced by the colorfull Franky Fonell, to electro music scene, and to the young Swiss producer Chris Reece. Together they record a few projects for Zurich area’s local DJ’s.

2005 Florian contributed to the Zurich’s “Street Parade” Compilation.  That year, the track “Feed Me” was one of the best selling Cd’s in Switzerland. The next year, his collaboration on “Street Paradise” compilation (summer 2006) with two tracks; “Sweet sensation” and “Sexy girl.” Later in that year the internationally famous German producer, Frank Farian became involved with Florian to work with him in Rossback Studios, Frankfurt Germany. Frank Farian and Florian join forces for the production of “Smile” and “Dangerous Man,” produced in Zurich.  Both songs are currently available on itunes. Between 2006 and 2007, Florian was again in the studio to work with Chris Reece, on numerous tracks for DJ’s, such as Tanja Lacroix, Mr Pink, Frank Anthony. The recordings that came about from that collaboration were,  Shake it, Voglia di mare« Voglia di mare, Angel’s Scream, and the excellent technopop, Moonlight Madness. (all available on itunes)

In 2008, Florian was back working with Chris Reece to participate in the album of the highly celebrated Djane: Tatana. Soulmate came out of that collaboration, (released by Syrup Music/TBA records. It is currently a gold album in Switzerland) In june of the same year, Florian co-wrote Marshmallow Dream with Chris Reece.

His newest release is now for one of the most sucessfull djs in Switzerland; Mr Da-nos for whom Florian wrote together with Joe Calabrio “ Miss Sunshine” soon available on itunes.  He released in august of 2009 on itunes a first Pop Ep “Blue Sunday” including 4 songs,in 3 different languages.

In November of the 2009, along with DJ Pilgrim, are released 8 great mixes of the 80’s atomic smashing hit “Wild Boys” and it is promised to do pretty well on Beatport, Track it Down and itunes.

His first electro album “DORIAN IS MRFLORIAN” is expected for Springtime 2010, with a second pop EP, which will include six new songs, “Perfect Haze” has an anticipated release in early summer.

What the Press has had to say about Florian

When I heard Florian's The Wild Boys I could not help remembering Keith Forsey. Yes, the producer of Billy Idol's Rebel Yell, the early 80's landmark recording. There was a successful combination of Techno, lyricism and contagious enthusiasm in that effort which works very well here too, even though Florian does his own thing without looking back and remains original throughout.

The Wild Boys is nicely arranged composition, with very good instrumental sounds which complement perfectly Florian's emerging vocals. His confident phrasing allows the listener to relate and be taken into a rewarding journey through the harmonic progression. The background voice tracks are also note worthy. For all its contemporary approach, this theme echoes of 60's classicism making it endearing to this writer.

There is a guitar which is not too different from Steve Stevens' sound, though much more subdued than the flamboyant explosions of the LA guitar hero, and some Latin percussion which cooks nicely.

The studio resources are creatively utilized, though my only small misgiving is the slightly excessive compression which, by the way, is also my only dissatisfaction with Rebel Yell. But this trait is actually a standard in the industry which has more to do with radio broadcast requirements than with artistic choice.
