Jefri Clark Payne is not only an amazing musician, he is my friend, and it is an honor to feature him at ArtSees. He is a man that gives reassurance to me that renaissance men still do indeed exist. Jef is everything from a public speaker, newscast announcer, trumpet player, teacher, father, friend, and a believer in the Lord. It is his undying faith that carries this man through the world wearing a multitude of hats.
Jef Payne began playing trumpet at age 12. He participated in jazz band, concert band, and marching band throughout high school. Jef was a member of the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps in 1989. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education at Indiana University in 1993. He has successfully taught band, orchestra, choir, music theory, and piano to children thoughout the state of Indiana since 1994.
The "Jef Payne Project" is a modern jazz quintet that plays smooth jazz/r&b/soul. The group members are Jef Payne (trumpet), Eric "Big E." Edwards (Bass), Matt Myles (Guitar), Chelsea Niccum (Sax), and William Hollified (Drums).
His CD "Smooth Jazz From The 317" is currently being played on over 400 internet radio stations and 30 on-air stations nationwide. The music video for my hit single "Runnin" has become very popular and can be seen on Youtube. The next album by the JPP will be entitled "Under Cover" which will feature more original music by Jef Payne.
Please enjoy his “Running Man” video, as well as his live performance from the Fall of 2008’ as he donated his time for a “Making Strides” concert event to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Check back for an audio interview with Jefri Clark Payne in the very near future. Visit Jef's official site.
