Michiana Vines is a tribute to the wine production in the beautiful area known as Michiana. Michiana is home to an abundance of vineyards and orchards. From the earliest days of summer to autumn's end, the air is rich with the fruity smells of strawberries, blueberries, grapes, peaches, and apples. Whether you choose to drive up Red Arrow Highway into Michigan, explore the eastern Michigan border by way of Route 12 or head down 80 east into Granger, you will find that there are family operations proudly turning fruit into wine. The sandy Lake Michigan watershed provides the perfect soil for sweet, juicy, tasty fruits.
ArtSees proudly presents the D'Avella Family Winery from Granger Indiana. This month's wine spotlight proudly shines upon this unassuming production. As John D'Avella modestly sat behind a table at a recent Michigan City Farmer's Market, I could tell immediately that he was proud of his contribution. (Wine glossary )
